Finding Data: Data on Transportation - United Kingdom

  • British Social Attitudes Survey Series (1983+)
    Began in 1983, and has been conducted every year since, except in 1988 and 1992. Designed to produce annual measures of attitudinal shifts. For the latest, use the UKDA. To obtain a free account please register with the UKDA. Also see British Social Attitudes Surveys, 1983-2012,

  • International Passenger Survey (1993+)
    Aims to collect data on both credits and debits for the travel account of the Balance of Payments, provide detailed visit information on overseas visitors to the United Kingdom (UK) for tourism policy, and collect data on international migration. To obtain a free account please register with the UKDA.

  • National Travel Survey (1972+)
    Series of household surveys designed to provide regular data on personal travel and monitor changes in travel behavior over time in Great Britian. To obtain a free account please register with the UKDA.

  • Northern Ireland Road Traffic Collision Data (1998+)
    Road traffic collision statistics in Northern Ireland. The data are divided into 3 files: (1) Collision: the circumstances of the collisions - details include the collision severity, number of vehicles and casualties involved, time and location, weather and road conditions, and carriageway hazards; (2) Vehicle: Vehicles involved in each collision - details include vehicle type, maneuver at time of collision, and data about the driver (age, sex); (3) Casualty: Casualties resulting from a collision - details include age, sex, injury severity and whether a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist.   • Road Accident Data (1985+)
    Road accident statistics for the United Kingdom are collected from information about personal injury road accidents and their consequent casualties, to a common national standard. To obtain a free account please register with the UKDA.

  • Scottish Household Survey (1999+)
    Continuous survey based on a sample of the general population in private residences in Scotland. Provides representative information about the composition, characteristics and behaviours of Scottish households, both nationally and at a more local level. Covers a wide range of topics to allow links to be made between different policy areas, with a particular focus on information to aid policy decisions on transport and social inclusion.   • UK Data Archive. Travel and Transport Data.
    Various transportation datasets from the United Kingdom Data Archive. To obtain a free account please register with the UKDA. Not all data is available outside the United Kingdom but most is.

  • World Air Transport Statistics (2006-2014)
    The paper version which began in 1957 (HE9911.W87; current in DSS) includes statistics on demand for air transport, supply of air transport, performance of the airline industry, and airline rankings. The electronic includes statistics for traffic, capacity, employees, and aircraft fleets. Paper is through 2016.
