The Current Population Survey (CPS) was initiated by the South African Department of Statistics (now Statistics South Africa) in October 1977 to collect data on the "African" and "coloured" labour force in South Africa, excluding the Transkei and Bophuthatswana. The CPS draws data from a sample of nearly 10,000 dwellings. Collected labor market data for "African" and "Coloured" South Africans. Data was collected on employment and unemployment (including reasons for not working), occupation, industry and income (salary/wage data only).
