- Description
-
In the first phase of the program (2016-21), the LSMS+ partnered with national statistical offices in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nepal, Sudan and Tanzania on the operationalization of the international recommendations for individual-disaggregated survey data collection on asset ownership, employment and enterpreneurship.
The national surveys that have been supported by the LSMS+ include questionnaire modules that are administered in private to each household member aged 18 and older. The modules collect information on each individual’s labor market activities and personal ownership of and rights to physical and financial assets. In collecting information on household non-farm enterprises, LSMS+ surveys also interview at least one of the owners for each enterprise.
The approach of interviewing multiple adults per household captures intra-household dynamics in labor and economic decision-making — the understanding of which is critical for designing policy around improving economic opportunities, particularly for women.
Additionally, in Nepal, LSMS+ will support a phone survey in 2021, with a focus on interviewing a randomly selected adult household member in each sampled household.
