Wellcome Trust Global Monitor (2018, 2020)

The Wellcome Trust Global Monitor was an add-on to the Gallup World Poll in 2018 and 2020 to measure global attitudes to science and health. Covers between 120,000-140,000 respondents in 113 countries representing more than 90% of the global population aged 15+. Repeated topics include:  Trust in science and health professionals; trust in neighbors; trust in major institutions; inclusion of benefits of science; religion and science; jobs and science; perceived knowledge of science; confidence in hospitals.

2018 Focus Areas:  Trust in sources of information about health or medicine; attitudes about vaccines; recently sought information about health/science; interest in learning more about science and health.

2020 Focus Areas: Mental health (anxiety or depression*); global perceptions of the importance of mental health for overall wellbeing; global perceptions of the role of science in finding solutions to anxiety or depression; how people around the world who have experienced anxiety or depression manage these problems; use of social media and seeking health-related information on social media; national leaders valuing science/scientists’ opinions; climate change; COVID-19.
