Agriculture is the primary sector of employment in Nepal. 26.98% percent of Nepal’s GDP comes from agriculture, which employs 81% of the active labor force. (FAO, 2020) However, Nepal’s agricultural sector is characterized by subsistence farming, low crop yields and low cropping intensity arising from lack of properly managed irrigation facilities and farmer’s poor knowledge of improved cultivation practices. (World Bank, 2011). To address these issues the government of Nepal has been implementing the Modernization of Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Scheme Project since 2012, with financing and technical assistance from the World Bank. The baseline survey took place in December 2016, and the endline survey took place in December 2019.
