Smits, Jeroen, and Iñaki Permanyer. "The subnational human development database." Scientific data 6, no. 1 (2019): 1-15. https://www.nature.com/articles/sdata201938. The SHDI data is also available in a more easy to use form on https://hdi.globaldatalab.org. The authors also have a related Area Database (https://globaldatalab.org/areadata) for economic well-being and development indicators at the national and sub-national level for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The Subnational Human Development Index (SHDI) and Subnational Gender Development Index (SGDI) are a translation of the UNDP’s official HDI and GDI (hdr.undp.org) to the subnational level. The SHDI is an average of the subnational values of 3 dimensions: education, health and standard of living.
