Adolescence is an inimitable phase of human development where essential foundations of an individual’s self-concept is strengthened. Self-concept attribute to the sense of identity of an individual over the time spectrum. The various turmoil and challenges faced by an adolescent also make it essential for them to adapt and function suitably with respect to situation, in the presence of healthy psychological well-being. At this developmental stage, the role of the immediate family, mainly constitution the parents, of the adolescent adopts new dimensions. The behaviours of parents as well as their styles of parenting, viz- authoritative, permissive, and flexible, starts posing an enormous influence upon the self-concept and psychological well-being of the adolescents. This present study with a sample size of 201 (male=101, female=100) explores the presence of any significant relation between different types of parenting, the self-concept and psychological well-being of adolescents. Any significant gender differences are also investigated with respect to self concept, perceived parenting style and psychological well-being of adolescents.

Universe: Urban and rural adolescents population in North India
Data Type: survey data
Response Rate: Of the 500 participants initially contacted, 350 responded (70 percent). The final sample of 201 participants ( 57 percent) was then selected from this pool of 350. With each of these 201 participants, collection of data were administered with the completion of three questionnaires.
Sampling: The sample size of 201 was randomly selected to represent the universe of adolescents in North India
