The purpose of winter cash assistance is to reduce the harsh winter weather burden on refugees and allow them to get through the cold season without having to resort to negative coping strategies like borrowing money to make ends meet. The one-off cash transfers allow refugees to purchase essential winter items, such as heaters, gas tanks/refills, blankets, etc. A lifeline for many, this program supported over 70,000 cases with a one-off cash injection of winterization cash aid in 2019 for a total investment of 17.9 million Jordanian dinars (JOD). In 2020, partly due to additional Covid-related cash support having been made available at the height of the 2020 Covid-19 crisis, the scope was decreased significantly: some 45,000 cases were assisted by UNHCR with winterization assistance for a total envelope of close to nine million JOD.
Post Distribution Monitoring is a tool that UNHCR uses to keep track of how winter cash assistance is used and its impact on recipient well-being and gathers key feedback from recipients on the appropriateness of cash distribution mechanisms.The scope includes:
