Adult Tobacco Survey in India at regional levels which include all the 29 states and union territories of Chandigarh and Pondicherry covering about 99.92 percent of the total population according to the 2001 Census of India. The major objectives of the survey are to obtain sufficiently reliable estimates of prevalence of tobacco use (smoking and smokeless tobacco as well), exposure to secondhand smoke, cessation etc., for both males and females at the national level and for each of the six regions classified by place of residence of the respondents (urban/rural).
